Are You A Sports Equipment Collector?

There are many folks out there who accumulate sports equipment as ornaments for their collection. They are normally sports lovers who might own a glass cabinet or a whole room dedicated to display all of their different sports collection. Several people just don’t realize why there are folks who accumulate such things. Several folks even don’t know a thing of the importance in accumulating sport gear.

To these people, various sports equipment are considered pieces of history. In the western world and in many other countries, sports have usually brought the masses together under one banner. A sport is not only a past time but also a way of connecting people together. There are many instances when sports have brought people together, the football World Cup, the Olympics, the Rugby world championships to name a few. These events bring people together as a nation supporting their national team. Even the smallest piece of equipment from one of these events serves as a piece of history and holds a great deal of importance to sports fans all over the world.

Sports equipment collectors usually begin this interest when they fall passionately in love with a particular sport. When people do that, they also fall in love with a particular team. To these folks, girlfriends, wives, cars, residences, and several more can be changed and replaced, but a preferred sport activity as well as a favorite team last until death. Take a look at association football followers in Europe. These people fall in line every end of the week at the stadiums in order to watch, cheer, and support their favorite teams with one big voice. With baseball, a fly ball or perhaps a home run ball shot straight towards the audience is priceless. Those that catch these balls either turn out to be personal treasures and heirlooms, and they can be quite valuable indeed, especially in the event that these were baseballs from a home run record.

The thing about collecting sports equipment or memorabilia is that no matter what age you start collecting, the passion or the drive has been boiling inside for a long time already. Most of the time collectors never thought they would start collecting themselves. They usually chance on collecting kits, jerseys, and uniforms with the logo of their favorite teams. Some start to learn the team chants or team songs, especially in football. Some others go on to record and download these songs as well. This is also prevalent in sports-minded families, with two or one parent influencing a child to play and support a sport and a sports team.

Sometimes sport collectors even go to great lengths to capture or obtain a certain piece of sports equipment or memorabilia. To them these objects hold so much meaning and history. If you feel that you fit this category, do not be ashamed to go out there and start collecting. If you are lucky, and your team’s stadium is not too far away, collecting fly balls, or getting autographed hats or balls may be easy and you can easily build your collection. If you are one of those who are miles away from getting a piece of the action, then plan the trip of your life to get to that stadium and capture even just one piece of history for yourself.

Get fit and healthy and make sure that you have the right sports equipment to display that manly charm in you. Various Sports Gifts and exercise equipment awaits you in www.MadAboutSports.com.au.

Thule Bike Racks And The Advantage Of Bike Racks

There are two forms of bike racks which you can take the liberty of using, more so, enjoying. They are either attached to a car roof or built to a particular location.

Car racks are utilized by individuals who are passionate in biking. To transport their bikes to the area of their preference, they fix them to the roof of the automobile and fasten either one, or at times, several bikes. Racks are available from outdoor shops and there are several models for a bike enthusiast to choose from. More importantly, these bike racks, like a Thule bike rack, are designed to fit both family cars and larger vehicles. Contemporary car mounted racks guarantee a strong hold of the bike and could take the biker to his prime destination without hassle.

Bike racks can be seen everywhere; in public areas particularly. Usually, they are made of iron rod attached to concrete blocks so that it can be found easily by bikers for them to lock their bikes to prevent those thieves from stealing bicycles being parked on the racks.

Other bike racks work by permitting the user to fasten the front wheel to the frame. However, the problem with this is that they are prone to theft incidents. If the thieves found out that the area is clear enough, they can unfasten the front wheel, thus being able to steal several bikes, only demanding a spare wheel to make it sold. Instead several bike racks are created to permit the actual frame to be fixed in, which is much stronger.

Some parts of Europe have their means of transportation by using bicycles, like Amsterdam, thus, making the government produce funds for the people to use their public bike racks conveniently and comfortably.

Any kind of bike racks, whether it is expensive or not, or even if it’s Thule bike rack, it has been a primary need to any bike owners.

Aside from letting you prevent theft from occurring, the bikers are made to pick the destination of their preference for further exhilarating adventure. The bikers can bring their circle of friends, families and others so that they can experience the beauty of biking together. Most of the bike racks, like a Thule bike rack, on the market are very easy to use.

Today, businessmen are concerned of being competent enough in the business world, thus, they make it a point to have the type of bike racks which are low-budget and in good quality as well.

Just like those higher price racks, the lesser one also is beneficial since they also make sure of the and its multiple function since they don’t only allow bikes but also tricycles, and the like. Therefore for those who couldn’t but the expensive one, then, you could still work things out.

The thing is that you just have to be clever enough to choose the ideal bike rack you want without hurting your budget.

The main point is that all pleasure in life is expensive but it depends on how you choose your life adventure would be. If you want it to be really exciting and fulfilling, make the best you could to make it work not just by money but by also being a wise buyer.

Nowadays that gas prices are remarkably increasing using bikes are becoming popular. Investing on high quality Thule bike Rack is really a great thing. You may want to buy bike trail guide.

If you have even the slightest interest in motor sports at all, you will surely have heard of stock car racing. The term ’stock car’ simply refers to the fact that the cars used to be stock items at local garages. Therefore, stock car racing includes NASCAR and dirt track racing. These are the most widespread forms of stock car racing, but there is another that is far less well-known. It is called Formula D or Formula Drifting

Many people imagine that because Formula D uses similar cars to the other stock car races, then Formula D is a form of racing cars too. Even though these sports do have certain things in common besides the kinds of cars they use, they are in fact quite different. however, they do all come under the heading of motor sports or auto sports.

In most motor sports, the car’s ability to go fast and the driver’s talent to encourage it to go fast are what are the most important considerations in winning a race. However, in Formula D or Formula Drifting, it is the driver’s aptitude to control a skid or a drift which is the most important, although the cars can be really awesome beasts as well at between 200 and 600 bhp.

Drifting and stock car racing normally take place at different types of locations too. Stock car racing almost always takes place in a stadium, racing around a track. Formula Drifting normally takes place on asphalt, but sometimes on dirt as well, but it can also take place in a parking lot or a desolate street. If Drifters use a stadium they are unlikely to use the full length of the track.

The winning driver in standard stock car races is the one who drives over the finishing line in the quickest time. This is not the same in Formula D as there is no finishing line as such. Drifters are judged on their ability to drift or skid and their ability to manage that drift. They have to do it at speed and remain on the ‘track’ as well.

This means that a drifter has to have a very high level of control over his vehicle, just like any other racing driver, but the set of skills is slightly different. All drivers have to be able to control the occasional skid, particularly the accidental ones, but drifters have to be able to do it with style and panache.

The only drawback from the spectators’ point of view is that Formula Drifting meetings are fairly uncommon when compared with stock car competitions. This is a shame because Formula Drifting is an exciting motor sport to watch and you can see world professional champions in action for a fraction of the cost of watching stock car racing.

Allen Iverson is one of the most high profile NBA free agents left on the market, and several teams have expressed interest in the dynamic guard. On Wednesday, Iverson sent a Twitter update indicating that the Memphis Grizzlies had made him an offer. Later that night, that information was confirmed by Memphis GM Chris Wallace.

Iverson had received the most interest from the Charlotte Bobcats and Miami Heat. Both teams have a lot of upside for ‘The Answer’-the Bobcats are coached by his Larry Brown, whom Iverson played for in Philadelphia. Miami would likely use Iverson in a reserve role-while he bristled at that assignment in Detroit, he’s suggested that he’d be more receptive to it on a contending team.

From a financial standpoint, however, there are problems with both Miami and Charlotte. The Heat is already over the salary cap, and simply doesn’t have the personnel budget to pay Iverson what he could demand elsewhere. Charlotte, meanwhile, is up for sale and for that reason under severe financial constraints.

Memphis, on the other hand, has $3.5 million dollars of free space under the salary cap. They could easily outbid either Miami or Charlotte, and would also make Iverson the focal point of the team. While GM Wallace confirmed that they’d made a formal offer to “AI” he was mum on the specific terms:

“We’re heading into the home stretch before the season, and we have had interest in Allen all summer. We’ve been in touch on a fairly consistent basis and had dialogue with his agent, Leon Rose, since the beginning of free agency. We’ll probably add another guard at some point, but we don’t need to rush to do it.”

The enigmatic Iverson appeared in only 57 games for the Nuggets and Pistons due to injury and averaged a career-low 17.5 points per game. Iverson remains one of the most potent scoring threats in the sport and his willingness to play through injuries that would land most NBA players on the disabled list has made him a fan favorite. And that might be the crux of his appeal in Memphis-on a team going nowhere Iverson will put butts in the seats and get the local community excited about the Grizzles which is something that they’ve been unable to do with any regularity.

Mark Coleman Cut From UFC

Not too long ago, Mark Coleman headlined UFC 109 facing Randy Couture. Several days later, he’s apparently no longer good enough to remain in the UFC at all. On Wednesday, following a lopsided loss to Couture the UFC released Coleman from his contract and cut the veteran heavyweight. Coleman is now free to sign with any other promotion, but at 46 years of age his most likely-and most advisable-course of action is retirement. Retirement is a tough thing for any pro athlete to swallow, however, and fighters in particular have had difficulty in ending their career gracefully.

Coleman became the first UFC fighter to be cut immediately after headlining a PPV event. Others have left due to drug test failures or for other opportunities, but none have ever been cut from their contract. Sources close to the UFC suggest that it was a decision no one wanted to make, but that all felt was unavoidable due to Coleman’s age and deteriorating skills. Of course everyone knew of his age and deteriorating skills for awhile now, so the UFC’s baleful response is a tough act to buy.

While the fact that Coleman is a shell of the fighter he was at his prime, the UFC’s suggestion that they have his best interest at heart is somewhat duplicitous. He was kept around and booked into last Saturday’s fight–a fight that no one particularly had any interest in seeing in the first place–simply because he was a fighter that Randy Couture could beat. Were the UFC interested in the well being of their aging fighters there’s several others on the roster that should also be cut for the same justification as Coleman. Couture, Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell are all well past their prime but they’re still under contract and will all likely fight again. No one really wants to see these relics fight, but the UFC has long had a policy that what their fan base wants to see is of minimal importance.

Coleman’s age has never been a secret and his diminished skill level was evident to anyone who has watched his recent fights. If the UFC was really interested in his physical well being, the main event against Couture should have never taken place. The fight itself wasn’t exactly one that UFC fans had been clamoring for and one that met with derision from the MMA media from the time it was announced. The fact that the PPV buyrate for the event will end up as one of the lowest in recent history pretty much sums up the story.

While retirement would be in Coleman’s best interest, he may attempt to fight in a smaller US promotion or in Japan where he’s well known from his time in PRIDE. He’s already a member of the UFC Hall of Fame with a 26-10 career record and has fought the best in the world including Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Mirko Cro Cop.

Philadelphia Phillies’ slugger Ryan Howard has two years remaining on his current contract with the club, but the team had no interest in potentially losing him as a free agent. For that reason, the Phillies have worked out a hefty contract extension with Howard that will pay him an average $25 million a year for the next five years. The deal is the second richest in Major League baseball behind the New York Yankees’ shortstop Alex Rodriguez who pulls down a cool $27.5 million per season. The 30 year old Howard has played his entire career with the Phillies, leading the team to two consecutive World Series including a victory in 2008.

Howard spoke of his loyalty to the team as the main reason that he accepted the deal without hesitation:

“That wasn’t a very hard decision.”

“I tell you what, it’s a great feeling to have that security and know where you’re going to be. I feel what I’ve been doing over the last couple of years, I feel pretty confident that down the road, I’ll be right where I want to be and still doing the same things.”

He then threw in a playful jab at the notoriously pugnacious Philadelphia fans:

“Hopefully there’s no riots taking place back in Philly.”

Even Philadelphia’s GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. was in a joking mood:

“As part of this deal, he has agreed to buy a second home for me.”

He then gave a more serious take:

“We just felt it was good timing for us. We felt No. 1, he’s one of the elite offensive players in the game. We could have waited another year and a half or so and dealt with it later on, but the fact of the matter is we decided he is that important to our organization and to our club and to our future.”

Howard’s agent Casey Close was also upbeat:

“This is a very good contract for him. The reason he felt the time was right was he loves his teammates, he loves the city. He wanted to be a part of something special for a long time to come.”

As was team manager Charlie Manuel:

“This is absolutely great. We signed Ryan Howard quite a few years ago and that means we’re keeping him. He’s one of our guys, he is a Phillie. It’s big for our team. That’s what you set out for. He’s very worthy of it. He is a great player and he is going to continue to be a great player for a while. Everything about it’s good.”

There is some risk involved for the ball club-despite a team option for the 2017 season they’re banking that Howard will remain a high level offensive player. The size of the contract, if nothing else, would make him almost impossible to trade should the team decide to go in a different direction. The Phillies have cooled off somewhat since a red hot start, but are still in first place in the National League East.

Browns Keeping Starting QB Under Wraps

Most NFL head coaches place a priority on naming a starting QB before the regular season begins. The idea is that it helps the chemistry on the team, as well as helping the quarterback define himself as a team leader. Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini hasn’t named his starting QB yet. Nor will he, at least not publicly. Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson will find out if they’re the starting QB in the next couple of days, but the first public confirmation their coach will give is when they trot out on the field after the NFL regular season begins.

Mangini stressed that he’d already made his choice, and that hell meet with both Quinn and Anderson individually to inform them of his decision:

“In terms of announcing it publicly, that’s not something I plan to do. It will be internal. I understand everybody has a different opinion on it. I respect that. I understand the excitement in relationship to that and I respect that as well. But that will be something that will be internal.”

As of Sunday, both quarterbacks were still in the dark and not saying much. Derek Anderson said he didnt have a clue:

“I know as much as you guys know.

While Quinn suggested that it wasnt a big concern for him”at least not as big as it is for the media:

“I’m not worried about it. You guys are more worried about it than I am.”

Mangini may be trying to gain a strategic advantage over the Browns opponents in their opening game:

“It is more difficult to plan for two quarterbacks than it is to plan for one. I’m not saying that’s going to be the difference or not the difference, but I know that there is time allotted to that and you can’t put the same amount of time into focusing on one player.”

On the other hand, Vikings coach Brad Childress said that it really didnt make a difference in how hed approach preparing his gameplan:

“Just schematically, you’re going to go back and look at tape and see what you’ve seen. And then I know, as do our guys, that there will be unscouted looks. They certainly haven’t showed their whole hand, offensively and defensively. So you’re just going back and looking at formation-wise where they’re putting people and what kind of players they are. It will be more about us deploying to what they do.”

The Browns coach concluded his comments by emphasizing that regardless of who is eventually named the starting QB that hes happy with the play of both:

“I have been happy with the progress that both guys made. I’m happy with the way they’ve worked. I’m happy with the way they approached this competition, and it’s not always easy to approach a competition in a team fashion, and I respect the way they’ve handled it.”

After hosting the Vikings in their opening game of the 2009 NFL regular season, Cleveland will play their next two games on the road. They’ll head to Denver for a game against the Broncos on September 20th and then play another away game in week 3, taking on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, September 27.

The Basics Of NFL Totals

For the NFL handicapper, understanding the methodology behind NFL totals (also called over/under numbers) is crucial. For those not familiar with NFL totals, its the large number you’ll see accompanying most pointspread betting propositions. For example, the 2009 Superbowl line opened with Pittsburgh a 6 point favorite over Arizona. The total was set at 47. Simply stated, the total allows the better to decide whether the combined score between the two teams will go OVER or UNDER.

NFL totals are a favorite tool of serious sports handicappers. Many are of the opinion that its easier to accurately foretell the *type* of game that will transpire between two teams rather than who will actually win and by how much.

The basics of setting NFL totals are fairly simple: the bookmaker looks at the offensive and defensive data for the two teams and constructs a number based on points allowed and points scored. If one team had scored 275 points and allowed 350 in their previous sixteen games that’s a total of 625. Divided by 16 and that’s an average of just over 39 points per game. If their opponent had scored 285 and allowed 400 (685) over 16 games that translates to just under 43 points per game. Add the two numbers together, divide by two and youve got a base total of 40.5.

At this point other factors are considered such as the significance of key numbers like 3 and 7 on final scores, weather conditions, injuries, playing surface, etc. Another component that is important is the qualitative matchup between the offense and defense of each team”meaning that a team like the Baltimore Ravens with a strong defense will be more likely to impose their will on a team resulting in a lower final score.

Of course as in the case of the NFL pointspread, public perception is a crucial component of the linesmaking process. For example, the conventional wisdom is that bad weather like rain, snow, or sleet results in lower scores and for that reason a bookmaker will shade the total accordingly. However, its not quite that simple–some handicappers would maintain that sloppy weather can produce higher scores in certain situations as defensive backs aren’t able to cut as well and react to the man their covering. Furthermore, turnovers are in theory more likely in inclement weather.

In conclusion, NFL totals are a very good opportunity for an astute handicapper to take advantage of a situational matchup to find good wagering value. Like most elements of the sports handicapping discipline, its not easy to stay a step ahead of the bookmakers who have access to the same weather and injury–and have factored it into the number–but is a very entertaining and potentially rewarding challenge.

UFC 88 Flashback: Rashad KO’s Liddell

Rashad Evans was fighting for respect. He didn’t scream about demanding respect in his prefight interviews because hes smart enough to know that respect must be earned. He earned it and then some with a devastating 2nd round TKO of Chuck Liddell in the main event of UFC 88: Breakthrough.

If Evans needed any more validation of how little respect he was getting, he could have taken a look at the UFCs text message prediction poll of the main event which favored The Iceman by a whopping 81% to 19% margin. Or he could have listened to the UFC announcers, who had all but penciled Liddell in for a return to light heavyweight title contention after his inevitable victory. Instead of complain, Evans let his fists do the talking and with a perfectly placed overhand right will likely never have to worry about a lack of respect again.

From the opening horn, Evans showed no fear of Liddells once legendary power. Instead, he danced and moved (which was dumbly criticized as showboating by the UFC announce team), using his slick footwork and speed to dart in and out of range of Liddells punches. In the process, he was able to use his superior handspeed to get off first. His punches werent exactly highlight reel power shots at this point, but were nonetheless effective as evidenced by a cut opened under Liddells eye.

The end was to come in the 2nd round. Liddell backed Evans up near the cage wall and went to throw an uppercut. Simultaneously, Evans responded with an overhand right that landed quicker, harder and more accurately. The perfectly placed punch knocked Liddell out cold and referee Herb Dean jumped in to cover him up and wave off the fight without taking a second look.

Rashad Evans raised his record to 17-0-1 with the TKO victory. Liddell, meanwhile, saw his record drop to 21-6.

Liddells loss notwithstanding, it was a good night for UFC veterans as Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson won their fights in impressive fashion. Franklin looked particularly sharp in dismantling tough Matt Hamill, eventually prevailing by 3rd round TKO. Hamill had trouble getting inside for the takedown he needed to compete in the bout, and every time he closed the distance he was met with a barrage of Franklin punches and kicks.

This was the UFCs first trip to Atlanta and despite a good attendance the crowd itself was somewhat disappointing. In a marked contrast to the knowledgeable and enthusiastic fans at the Target Center in Minneapolis for UFC 87″arguably the best MMA crowd ever at a US venue”the live crowd at Phillips Arena often acted as if they were at a taping of Georgia Championship Wrestling. Every foreign fighter was booed mercilessly”including South Korean Kim. Kim was treated like legendary Gary Hart managed pro wrestling heel Pak Song as he had to endure a USA chant during his fight. Perhaps the audience didnt realize that South Korea has been a US ally since its establishment after WW II. The fighters from other longtime adversaries of the United States”Brazil and Holland”fared somewhat better.

More problematic was the crowds utter lack of respect for the fighters postfight. Poor Dong Hyun Kim was booed during his postfight interview like he was Professor Toru Takana cutting a heel promo on Mr. Wrestling 2 after winning the Georgia Heavyweight Title by throwing salt in his opponents eyes while the referee was distracted. Not quite the respect that a 4th degree judo black belt whod just won a very tough fight deserves. Kims treatment by the fans cant be written off as a reaction to a close split decision victory; Rashad Evans was booed after his victory over Liddell, and short of decapitating The Iceman there was no way his win could have been more decisive.

Redskins To Stay With Zorn As Coach For Now

Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn is off of the hot seat-at least temporarily. After a recent swoon that saw him stripped of play calling duties for the NFL team, Zorn got a vote of confidence from upper management on Friday. His head isn’t entirely out of the noose, however, as the reprieve will last only to the end of the season unless some marked improvement is seen in the second half.

Executive Vice President of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato had the following statement:

“Jim Zorn is the head coach of the Washington Redskins and will be for the rest of this season, and hopefully into the future.”

“The frustration is very high, everywhere around here. But the relationships internally within this organization, quite frankly, remain the same.”

For his part, Zorn was nonplussed by the vote of ’semi-confidence’:

“I don’t necessarily have a reaction to that because I am the head coach. I want to be here for the next 10 years. That’s my story.”

While he didn’t express much personal relief from the management statement, he said he hoped it would benefit his players:

“If it comforts the players – awesome! But I think our players are focused regardless of what the situation is. Whatever has to be said, I guess it has to be said, but we go on.”

Quarterback Jason Campbell sounded relieved that the drama was over for the time being:

“That should relieve a lot of tension and a lot of stress. Guys don’t have to worry about thinking about it or talking about it. We were the soap opera for the NFL the last two weeks so hopefully it’ll calm down a little bit.”

Ceratto also had a different take on the removal of Zorn’s play calling duties:

“Look at all the things that we’ve done to try to help. You could have done other things drastically. No, you have confidence in him, because you want him to do well. Hopefully we can just concentrate and focus on winning football games.

He also expressed confidence in offensive consultant-and new offensive playcaller-Sherm Lewis’ ability to do the job:

“You don’t forget how to ride a bike if you hadn’t rode your bike in four years.”

The Redskins have slumped to a 2-4 record in the early part of the NFL season despite being the first team in league history to play six straight games against winless teams. The Redskins two wins came against the St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers who have a combined 0-12 record. Washington will host the Philadelphia Eagles this Monday night before a bye week. After the bye, they’ll return to action on the road against the Atlanta Falcons on November 8.
